Behind the Name
Many people ask me how I came up with the name “Wearable Joy.”
…Okay, so no one has asked me that. But that’s because no one has seen this page yet. I just know that people will ask, all right?
To explain how Wearable Joy came into existence, I have to make a confession:
I am kind of a word nerd.
See, I love palindromes, and puns, and limericks, and especially anagrams. There is this awesome website where you can put in a word or phrase, and it will generate every possible combination of words that can be made by rearranging those letters. (Example: I made up the name of a blog my husband and I shared, back when we were first engaged, by entering in “Joe and Tab Carnes” — Rearranged, it was “Carbonated Jeans.” Cute, right?)
Anyway, I was recently playing with the idea of registering my first domain name, while concurrently thinking up this whole bead blog thing. I went to the anagram generator website and started putting in all sorts of phrases, like “Tabitha beads,” and “beading is fun,” when all of a sudden, out of the phrase “Tabitha Rose Jewelry,” the anagram generator gave me:
Wearable Joy Hitters
…Now, obviously the word “hitters” simply did not belong with the phrase “wearable joy.” But those two words struck me instantly, and I decided that as fun as finding a cool anagram for a whole phrase might have been, I was more than willing to scrap those seven pesky letters that threatened to kill it for me. It was fate, after all.
And thus was born Wearable Joy.
So, silly anagrammified origin aside, I like this name because it is exactly how I feel about beads and bead jewelry. That first necklace I made practically sang when I put it on, and I felt simply radiant wearing it. And as cheesy as it may sound, I honestly have a hard time being in a bad mood when I’m wearing a vibrant, sparkly necklace or a colorful pair of earrings.
And what’s more: I think you just might feel the same way. Have a look around!
